## Consent is not optional

Adult content still requires consent. All participants must be adults who have explicitly agreed to that specific use of their image or likeness. Consent to create content is separate from consent to share it; both are required. Do not upload, request, generate, edit, share, or download intimate material of any person without their documented permission for each use.

This applies whether the material is real or AI-generated. Creating a synthetic intimate image of a real person without consent violates their privacy and is illegal in many jurisdictions.

## Zero tolerance for minors

Never seek, generate, process, request, download, or share any material involving persons under 18. This includes:

- Actual imagery or video of minors in any sexual context.
- AI-generated, synthetic, or deepfake imagery depicting minors.
- Implied minor content or age-play material.

If you are unsure whether someone is an adult, do not engage. In many jurisdictions, creating or distributing such content is a serious federal crime with lengthy prison sentences and permanent registration as a sex offender.

## Explicit prohibition: non-consensual intimate imagery

Creating or sharing intimate images of real people without their consent is illegal in multiple jurisdictions and causes documented psychological harm.

**US Law:** [The TAKE IT DOWN Act (Public Law 119–12, effective May 2025) criminalizes knowingly publishing non-consensual intimate images—real or AI-generated deepfakes—of adults and minors without consent.](https://www.congress.gov/119/plaws/publ12/PLAW-119publ12.pdf) Violations carry criminal penalties and civil liability.

**UK Law:** [The Online Safety Act 2023 amends the Sexual Offences Act to criminalize sharing intimate images without consent, whether real or synthetic deepfakes, with no requirement to prove intent to cause distress.](https://www.parliament.uk/business/bills-and-acts/acts/online-safety-act-2023/) Penalties include prison time and registration as a sexual offender.

**EU Law:** [The AI Act Article 50 requires anyone generating synthetic intimate content to disclose that fact and obtain consent from all depicted persons.](https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/?uri=OJ%3AL_202401689) Failure to disclose synthetic content is a violation.

Do not create deepfakes of real people's faces or bodies in intimate situations. Do not share such material even if someone else created it.

## What lawful use looks like

Lawful use requires your own content (created and owned by you), licensed material (with a clear, legitimate license), or documented consent from all depicted adults. When in doubt, don't.

## If you're a victim

If intimate images of you (real or AI-generated) are circulating without your permission, you have resources. Our [report-abuse guide](/ncii-report/) walks through the reporting steps; the confidential services below handle removal directly:

- **StopNCII.org** provides free, confidential hashing and removal support for adult non-consensual intimate images.
- **[NCMEC CyberTipline](https://report.cybertip.org/)** (1-800-843-5678) handles reports involving minors or child sexual exploitation material.
- **[Take It Down (NCMEC)](https://takeitdown.ncmec.org)** allows minors to submit image hashes for confidential removal from major platforms.

Document URLs, dates, account names, and preserve screenshots. Avoid resharing the material outside official reporting channels.
